Finding Notlo
Notlo lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon. Click its microphone icon to show or hide the island, and right-click it to open the Library or quit Notlo.
Recording a call
- Press ⌥R in any app, or click the round button on the island, to start.
- Press ⌥R again, or click the button, to stop. Notlo then transcribes the whole recording and finds the speakers.
- The island shows the wave and the live captions. Drag it anywhere on the screen; it stays where you leave it.
- Click × to hide the island. The recording keeps going, and the menu bar icon shows it. ⌥Rbrings the island back without stopping.
Allowing the microphone and your Mac's sound
The first time you record, macOS asks to let Notlo use the microphone and record your Mac's sound. Allow both: the microphone hears you, and your Mac's sound carries everyone else in the call. If you declined, open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and switch Notlo on under Microphone and under Screen & System Audio Recording.
When ⌥R does nothing
Another app may already use the shortcut. The island then says “⌥R is taken by another app”. Click the round button on the island to record instead.
The first recording takes a while to start
On first use Notlo downloads its speech models, and the island shows “Loading the model…” with a percentage. It happens once; after that Notlo works offline.
Transcribing a file
Drop an audio or video file on the menu bar icon, on the island or in the Library. It appears in the Library under Files when it is done.
Languages
Notlo transcribes English by default. Click the language chip on the island, EN, to pick one of18 languages or let Notlo detect it.
Copying and exporting
In the Library, select a transcript and click Copy, or Export… to save it as TXT, SRT or Markdown. Hover over a row to export it, show it in Finder or delete it; click the bin twice to delete.
